Proposal To Open Bike & Hike Trail Between
Palo Corona’s South Bank Trail Gate & Rio Road
Proposal: Open a (less than half mile) connector trail for bicyclist and hikers from Palo Corona’s South Bank Trail gate located at What3Words address: ///sociable.surrounding.introduce to Val Verde Drive which leads to Rio Road and beyond.
My name is John Rowe, and I live on Via Mallorca, in Carmel. I love riding my bike from home through the Hacienda to the Farm Field at Quail and then down Palo Corona’s South Bank Trail to the gate, where I have to turn around.
I’d like to be able to continue past the locked gate and over the bridge, then west to Rio Road so I could ride all the way to the Crossroads, Scenic Road and downtown Carmel without having to ride down Carmel Valley Road.
With such a connector, many people could ride their bikes or hike from anywhere east of the Quail Golf Club, all the way to Carmel-By-The-Sea and beyond without having to ride or walk near high-speed vehicles. I would use it three or four times a week myself. Also, I would actually be able to ride my bike safely to go pick up a few things at the store, etc.
This trail was supposed to completed when the “Rancho Cañada Village Subdivision” was developed years ago. But that development has stalled, and nothing has happened since 2021.
Why not make an effort to open a connector trail today? Especially now that it looks like the development is not going to take place anytime soon. This connection is less than a half mile in length.
